She invented a whole new way to work with and think about glass - a process she called "mid-air slumping." WebThe contrast between Shaffer's metal and glass intensifies the perception of both. Shaffer developed a process in the 70’s in which plate glass is allowed to bend and shape itself as gravity, heat, or whatever it is contiguous to, pulls it. Called “mid-air” slumping, Shaffer sculpts the glass in mid-air allowing the forms to take shape.
